The wide spread excellent reputation of architecture in Graz came already up in the 1970ies, when a group of young graduates of the local architecture faculty brought out, with political support, numerous examples of extraordinary architecture– completely opposite the mainstream of the period.
The experimental housing construction of that time was highly respected all over Europe. A development to date: a lot of new university and hospital buildings are emerging.
In 2003 Graz was European Capital of Culture – a fact that gave rise to create architectonic spots. And because of its growing, there are new impetus in housing construction, entire quarters are rising, schools are built,… and everything that belongs to this development.
